What is
VoIP?
Voice over IP (VoIP) is the ability to send and receive
voice communications through an IP network (the
Internet). Technically, VoIP can be any
voice traffic that goes over the Internet
itself. The first VoIP providers in actuality
were the companies that provided voice services from
PC to PC that were enabled with a microphone back in
the mid 1990's. Since VoIP first came to
the market though, significant advances in the
technology have come to fruition. |

What VoIP is today.
As VoIP is applied to today's business environment, the ability to send and
receive phone signals via the Internet has evolved into systems that can
integrate with PBXs and the telephone company's Public Switched Telephone
Network (PSTN). Basically with this integration, VoIP solutions now
provide call quality similar to the phone company's, with a look and feel that
is almost the same as your traditional phone services. In reality, the
only real difference between VoIP phone services today, and the traditional
PSTN services is that more advanced features are available, including unified
messaging, PC-to-phone access, and others that cannot be accomplished over the
PSTN. Additionally, many people were nervous about 911 services
over VoIP, and NeuWorld has been able to "remedy" this issue, and
provides 911 services on the NeuEnterprise, NeuFone and NeuVoice solutions. Advantages
of VoIP:
What are the advantages of VoIP if it is a technology that is simply trying to
keep par with the services that are currently provided through the phone
companies? Simply put, VoIP offers tremendous cost savings. Since
VoIP technologies are not dependent on the phone companies for transport or
connections, the costs of long distance are miniscule, and many VoIP providers
now are simply giving long distance away as part of a low monthly service
rate. Additionally, VoIP services are not subject to as many taxes as the
PSTN services are, and this means that your advertised VoIP rate will be very
close to what you will pay. The technical advantages of VoIP are
also very clear. For example, the NeuVoice
line from NeuWorld includes (in the basic phone rate $29.99) class 5 calling features
and voicemail and standard PBX functionality from NeuWorld's virtual PBX. The advanced features include fully
interactive phones (control your phone from any PC in the world), the ability
to take your phone with you anywhere you have a broadband connection, and of
course unified messaging (link your phone's voicemail with your MS Outlook
account to send voicemails via e-mail and more). These are just
some of the advantages of VoIP, but one thing is clear, is that with VoIP
services, you definitely get the most services and convenience for your
money. When you start to look at enterprise businesses, VoIP plays a more
significant role when you take into account that you are creating your own
phone network for your business. Thus all calls within your business's
own VoIP network are free, regardless of your office locations.
VoIP technologies can also leverage off of your existing infrastructure to not
only extend the life of your existing PBX, but to enhance what your phone
solutions can do. The NeuEnterprise
line from NeuWorld is dedicated to bringing powerful and money saving VoIP
solutions to enterprise companies.
